Mr. Morand focuses his practice on business litigation and trial practice. Since joining the Varner & Brandt litigation team in 2011, Mr. Morand has been involved in handling several civil litigation matters for both plaintiffs and defendants. His skills have obtained multiple six figure settlement awards for his clients, and he has successfully handled the defense of numerous negligence and premises liability cases, all of which have resulted in either defense verdicts or in favorable settlement negotiations. Mr. Morand’s talent as a litigator is also marked by his proven track record in both the arbitration and mediation setting, as well as in obtaining multiple defense judgments when arguing pretrial motions before the court.

Dedicated to serving his community, Mr. Morand sits on the Board of Directors for Inland Counties Legal Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing legal services to low-income persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. As an active board member since April 2015, Mr. Morand also serves on the Inland Counties Legal Services Technology and Audit Committees, where he is responsible for overseeing the proper external review of the financial statements of the corporation as well as the organization’s risk management, including monitoring the internal control environment.

Prior to joining Varner & Brandt, Mr. Morand gained invaluable experience in litigation advocacy through his many extracurricular activities while earning his Juris Doctorate. Mr. Morand interned as an assistant to Hon. Charles W. McCoy, Jr. (Ret.), then acting Supervising Judge of the Civil Departments of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, where he aided in the judicial aspect of numerous civil cases in the nation’s largest trial court. During this time Mr. Morand learned firsthand what Judge McCoy calls “The Five Cs” necessary for the sane and successful practice of law: Civility, Candor, Competence, Compassion, and Courage – a model that Mr. Morand strives to perfect everyday in his practice of law.

In addition to his work with Judge McCoy, in 2008 Mr. Morand was selected to serve as a judicial assistant to Hon. Stephen G. Larson (Ret.), Federal Judge of the United States District Court, Central District of California, during Judge Larson’s designated service to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco. While studying law at the University of La Verne College of Law, Mr. Morand finished top of his class in Criminal Procedure, Federal Courts, and Legal Analysis & Writing. He was an oral argument finalist in Appellate Advocacy and also received the Best Petitioner Brief Award in the University’s Honors Moot Court competition.
