A Business Law Firm with a Personal Touch

Clients turn to Varner & Brandt not only for legal knowledge, but because we take the time to understand their business and long-term goals. Whether advising a multi-national corporation, a fast-growing local company, or a family navigating estate matters, our counsel is strategic, collaborative, and grounded in real-world experience. That business sense, built over decades, is what makes us partners invested in our clients' long-term success — not just their immediate legal needs.

Varner & Brandt isn't just a law firm. It's part of the legal backbone of Inland Southern California.

Deeply Rooted in the Community

Our longstanding presence here is more than a point of pride — it reflects the role we've played in the region's growth. We've advised on significant real estate developments, supported local businesses, and engaged in civic initiatives, helping build the Inland Empire's business foundation alongside generations of business leaders, developers, and public institutions. That regional insight, paired with broad legal capabilities, is what makes us a go-to long-term partner for our clients.

Sean Varner, our Managing Partner, serves the community in many non-profit and business advisory roles. Sean’s great, great grandfather, Henry Goodcell, Jr. moved to San Bernardino County in 1857. Henry served in a variety of public offices, including being elected as the county auditor in 1886. Also, in the fall of 1873, he was elected county superintendent of schools. In addition to holding public office, he studied law so adeptly and meticulously that at the end of two years, he was admitted to practice law in 1875. He was appointed San Bernardino County District Attorney in 1879.

Henry Goodcell’s son, Sean’s great grandfather’s brother, Rex Goodcell, was admitted to the bar in 1901, was elected District Attorney of San Bernardino County in 1910 and in 1918 was elected a Judge in the Superior Court in San Bernardino County. Like Bruce and Sean Varner, Henry and Rex Goodcell practiced law together.

As we honor this history, we remain focused on the future, adapting to evolving legal and business environments while staying guided by the principles that have defined us for over a century.
